A re you satisfied with what you have achieved?
I am a complete perfectionist so I can say I am  ‘happy’  with my achievements as a DJ but not satisfied’ yet. Inspite of having played for audiences across the world ,I feel that I have a long way to go. There is  always more and more you can do in this field, and I am looking forward to learning new technical skills that have not been used in India and making an international name for myself.

How tough is it to balance DJ-ing and modeling?
It is certainly tough to balance both the professions but I manage fairly well because I love what I do. As a high fashion model, you have the opportunity  to wear gorgeous designer  costumes  and look beautiful on the ramp. And as a DJ, I am adept at track mixing,  yet it’s flattering when people keeps smiling because you’re a known face. It helps maintain my mood and tempo. And I love the idea of having  Bollywood celebrities and the corporate world dance to my tunes.

Are women taken seriously in this profession?
My life as a DJ has its own set of challenges, especially since I am one of the first few women to be successful in this field. I’ve had lots of people supporting me and also lots of them trying to pull me down but that’s the  challenge – to stick to your ambition!

Do late nights and travelling around the world take a toll?
I work for the best crowd around the world and have always been  treated well. Of course it’s exhausting to land in a country in the morning and play at a gig at night! But if u love what you do, then nothing seems to  be  a chore.

Most importantly, my parents always let me follow my dreams, and my faith  in my decision accompanied by hard work and dedication have helped  me to be successful. I have always been perfectionists because as a DJ if u make a minor technical mistake on the deck they say : ‘Oh, she’s a girl what can u expect!’ But if there’s a male DJ, there are never any eyebrows raised however pathetic he may be.

How have you managed to ward off unwanted male attention?
Treat this as a job, as a career. Remain focused and let nothing affect you. I am aware of all the attention but I am also aware that I am good with my job and the only thing I need to focus on is my performance.

Once after a super successful gig at a club I was just leaving the console after finishing my set when a DJ told me that I had it easy as I was a good-looking girl and my talent didn’t matter. He went on to say something sexually nasty. I was so upset that I could have punched him, but I  told him that he should just get himself  a pair of boobs done. Everyone around burst out laughing  and he was embarrassed. Of course I walked out the club with my head high but when I reached  home I cried.

What are the pros and cons of being a woman?
Gender bias has always been a part of every profession, but you must prove your capabilities against  all odds. Give your 100 per cent to everything and never give up on something that you believe in.
