My work: I mix music and play for the crowds at pubs, parties and clubs. My work mainly focuses on making the crowds swing to my beats. Why I chose this job: Because of my passion for music! DJing is one career that will help me bind myself to music 24/7. It's exhilarating. Required skills: Lore for music, and a sense of sound, rhythm and melody. There are no specific skills; with a good knowledge of music and determination lo perform, you can work your way np. Also, performing for the right crowd is important and takes you places. Job training: Ton don't need to go to a performing school. All yon need is enthusiasm. Observe and learn. Working in a night club, interning, and on-the-job training with an already established DJ helps. So does constantly discovering new sounds and mixing music In an interesting way. Preferred background: If yon have a keen interest in music and are willing to learn, that's enough. Salary: In the beginning, you earn nothing. One needs to slog. And it takes time for people to know your worth. Starting off at about Rs 10,000 a month, you can go np to Rs 5 lac a month. The best thing about my job: Travelling to exotic places on the job. And, besides that, I have met some truly wonderful creative people in the parties. The downers: Packed schedules, hectic days and back-to-back work during peak seasons from October to December.
