Megha Kawale has bravely spun the old Star-Trek phrase- Where no man has gone before- to 'Where no Woman has gone before!' The male bastion of DJs was rocked out into outer space the day this gorgeous girl made thousands literally dance to her tunes, by becoming India's first Female Disc Jockey.

Pearl  spins   pure   magic  on records, part of a rare breed of vinyl wizards. "Music is all about connecting with the crowd and with vinyls you can touch and feel your music." she says passion­ately. Pearl is known to carry loads of vinyls back from travels abroad. Her walls, stacked with discs, are proof of her passion.
As her collection grows, so does her repertoire. "I have grown out of lounge into funky house and now spe­cialise in progressive house," says Pearl, adding, "a ixi has to strike a balance between what she wants and what the crowd wants." In fact. Pear! wants to just freelance now. "I want to travel with my music," says the spinner who "plays from the heart".

Also cruising the controls like a pro is iu Megha Kawale. At 5 ft and 10 inches. Megha towers over the com­petition, literally. And if you are expecting mundane music, this cur­vaceous model-cum-uj throws quite a curve at you. "It was destiny. I was sit­ting in a coffee shop, when 1 heard that 1900s at the Taj was looking for a w. I applied for the job and got it." smiles Megha. That was eight years ago. Megha has now been a freelance dj for three years with countless par­ties at local and international venues under her belt and an in-house stint with Mikanos thrown in for good measure. Here is a woman who is as likely to rock the dance floor as set the ramp on fire. "Deejaying is very

creative. It's an art form. You have lo observe, calculate and learn. Once you know the basics, it is all about upgrading and experimenting/ says Megha, who believes the magic lies in permutations and combinations.

The history topper from Ferguson College combines her love for music with a modelling career, sometimes blending the two passions. "I have played music for eight hours non-stop at a station in Basel* Switzerland for the 20th anniversary of a clothes store and then walked the ramp," says the leggy model So how does she strike a balance? "Whoever takes my dates first gets preference/ she says, "When I started out as a freelancer, 1 once had to choose between a Ritu Beri fashion show and a music gig,"1 she adds. The gig won " because I needed to prove myself as an inde-pendent DJ.

Tho freelancer now has to her credit gigs in Germany, Switzerland and London, besides "most places in India'. Her enthusiasm is infectious. "Whatever the crowd wants is what excites me, I love playing progressive house, vety up-tempo music."

Modelling still takes up much of her time but when Megha steps into the console, she's a pro. "My appear a nee isn't a factor because the audi-ence comes to listen to music If looks mattered, they would rather watch an Aishwarya Rai movie," says Megha. who believes in following her passion, whether she Is playing the cool mixer or the hot stepper.
